Porny Peanut
"Porny Days" is a Zurich-based, non-commercial, three-day film and art festival, held annually since 2012. It focuses on sexuality and corporeality, offering a broad approach to the body and the depiction of sex. Ranging from the subversive to the entertaining, from the sensual to the absurd, Porny Days sets a counterpoint to mainstream pornography and new prudery.
When I was living in London, my dear friend Talaya Schmid - cofounder of the festival - asked me to collaborate in a London edition of Porny Days. We eventually organised an evening consisting of film screenings, a live music performance, interviews and a burlesque fire hula hoop show. Since Talaya already had a lot of resources for the programme, I was in charge of tasks more local, such as sponsoring and ticket sales. The event took place at the Peanut Factory in Hackney Wick, which is why we called it "Porny Peanut".
The venue was an inhabited warehouse conversion. Its setup wasn't professional, yet functional; we could take advantage of the bar, a jacuzzi, a hanging net and a separate bedroom (if needed...), among others.
During the night, award-winning Portuguese filmmaker Antonio da Silva and London/Los Angeles based artist Mitra Saboury explained their work in Q&A sessions. The Institute of Incoherent Cinematography presented some of the first black-and-white silent sex movies from the 1920s.
We arranged collaborations with local drinks partners LemonAid und ChariTea UK (lemonade), Two Fingers Brewing (craft beer) and Sipsmith (spirits).
Despite the lack of popularity compared to Zurich, where the festival has become well established, we were able to address a broad audience and the event turned out a thorough success.

Die "Porny Days" sind ein dreitägiges, nichtkommerzielles Film- und Kunst-Festival zum Thema Körperlichkeit und Sexualität, das seit 2012 jährlich in Zürich stattfindet. Mit einem breiten Zugang zum Körper und zur Darstellung von Sex, der von Subversivem zu Unterhaltsamem, von Sinnlichem zu Absurdem reicht, setzen die Porny Days einen Kontrapunkt zu Mainstream-Pornografie und Neoprüderie.
Als ich in London lebte, wurde ich von meiner geschätzten Freundin Talaya Schmid - Mitgründerin des Festivals - angefragt, ob ich mit ihr zusammen eine Londoner Ausgabe der Porny Days durchführen wolle. So organisierten wir einen Abend mit Filmprogramm und einer Live-Musikperformance, Interviews und einer Burlesque-Feuer-Hula-Hoop-Show. Da Talaya bereits über viele Ressourcen für das Programm verfügte, kümmerte ich mich um Vorbereitungen vor Ort wie Sponsoring und Ticketverkauf. Der Event fand in der Peanut Factory in Hackney Wick statt, weshalb wir ihn "Porny Peanut" nannten.
Der Veranstaltungsraum - ein umgenutztes Lagerhaus, in dem Leute wohnen - verfügte über keine professionelle, aber dennoch zweckmässige Einrichtung. Wir konnten unter anderem die Bar, einen Whirlpool, ein Hängenetz und ein separates Schlafzimmer (für den Fall der Fälle...) nutzen.
Während dem Abend standen der preisgekrönte portugiesische Filmemacher Antonio da Silva und die in London und Los Angeles arbeitende Künstlerin Mitra Saboury Rede und Antwort. Das Institute of Incoherent Cinematography präsentierte einige der ersten schwarz-weiss Sexfilme der 1920er-Jahre.
Wir konnten die lokalen Getränkepartner LemonAid und ChariTea UK (Limonade), Two Fingers Brewing (Craft Bier) und Sipsmith (Spirituosen) für eine Zusammenarbeit gewinnen.
Auch ohne die Bekanntheit, die das Festival in Zürich mittlerweile geniesst, konnten wir viele Interessent/innen ansprechen und der Abend wurde ein voller Erfolg.
